Change Management

Improvement of any sort cannot be achieved without change and, at the same time, change is traditionally one of the most difficult things to manage. Change has traditionally been episodic; we identify projects or events and set up plans and structures to get to the required state.

That new state becomes the norm and we work with it until the next project is identified. However, like efficiency, the reality is that change can no longer be periodic or episodic. In order to be able to respond to the speed and challenges of the new business environment, we need to get to the point where change is natural, where it is an instinctive and immediate reaction to altered circumstances.

As managers, we need to develop the skills to deal with change on a generic rather than a specific level. We need to create structures that facilitate and control this process so that the organisation becomes agile and unafraid of change in the shortest possible time.
